SEPANG, Feb 4 — SIC Racing Team rider, Zulfahmi Khairuddin has been given the target to beat another national racer, Khairul Idham Pawi, better known as SuperKIP in the 2018 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season.
Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer said the team had set the target for Zulfahmi who was selected to ride the Kalex chasis to replace Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah who was said to be moving to MotoGP class.
Razlan said Zulfahmi should take advantage of the opportunity of having the best expertise from the chief mechanic of Idemitsu Honda to prepare the team for this season.
“My target to Zulfahmi is to defeat the other Malaysian rider in Motor2 (Khairul Idham).
“Even though Zulfahmi is a rookie rider, he is experienced and at the minimum, he should be competing against SuperKIP,” he told reporters.
Razlan said he could not maintain the same target as before which was the overall top five riders as Zulfahmi did not have depth of experience as Hafizh Syahrin in Moto2 competition.
“Now that you have returned to MotoGP, do you best,” he said.
Zulfahmi had raced in Moto3 with two podium finishes in 2012 before ending his racing career in 2015.
SIC yesterday announced Zulfahmi as a new rider for SIC Racing Team after Hafizh Syahrin was tipped to be transferred to MotoGP class with Monster Yamaha Tech 3 to replace Jonas Folger who was down with a health problem.
Nonetheless an announcement on Hafizh Syahrin’s promotion is expected to be made by his team soon. — Bernama
