KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 ― The Opposition Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) could face action from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for using “Armada” as the abbreviation for its youth wing.
RoS director-general Suriyati Ibrahim said the term “Armada” ― which stands for Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda ― is not found in PPBM’s constitution and urged it to amend the youth wing’s name accordingly.
“PPBM should immediately resolve this because the party had all this while breached the Societies Act 1966 by using the term Armada.
“I want them to resolve this quickly and if they do not respond soon, action will be taken,” RoS director-general Suriyati Ibrahim was quoted by Malay daily Utusan Malaysia as saying.
PPBM youth wing Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman was reported by news portal Malaysiakini saying he had received a letter from the societies’ regulator dated November 7 that the matter was under investigation; he added that he would do his best to provide assistance.
However, Tariq Ismail, a member of PPBM youth’s supreme council, claimed the party had submitted its amended constitution allowing for a name change to the RoS last July.
“PPBM submitted the amended PPB Constitution that was approved by the Supreme Council to ROS last July, including the names of the wings Armada and Srikandi but until now there has been no response from ROS,” he posted on his Facebook page yesterday.
Srikandi is the name for PPBM’s women’s wing.
