TOKYO, July 7 — Is it payback time for the US beating Japan in the Women’s World Cup yesterday?
Japanese robot-maker Suidobashi Heavy Industry released a video on YouTube Sunday formally accepting a challenge to duel from US-based MegaBots.
MegaBots issued the challenge via a YouTube video of its own on June 30.
However, the two companies are currently working out the logistics of the giant robot clash.
MegaBots had originally suggested that it take place about a year from now.
The Huffington Post reported that the robots are about 15 feet tall, piloted by actual human beings and capable of launching massive paintballs.
MegaBots told the website it hopes the sheer weight of its “Mark II,” a 12,000-pound behemoth, will give it the advantage over Suidobashi’s “Kuratas” robot, which weighs in at 9,000 pounds.
But it’s not going to be easy.
In the video, Suidobashi CEO, Kogoro Kurata, said, “We can’t let another country win this. Giant robots are Japanese culture,”
He also upped the stakes, asking if the duel can be fought as a physical melee rather than with the MegaBot Mark II’s paintball guns.
Kurata said, “Come on, guys; make it cooler. Just build something huge and sticking guns on it. It’s... Super American.”
Yes, your mecha anime dreams are about to come true!
