KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — The national junior badminton squad advanced to the second round of the 2016 World Junior Mixed Team Championships or better known as the Suhandinata Cup held at the Bilbao Arena in Spain yesterday.

Malaysia who whitewashed Mexico 5-0 in their Group E1 opening match on Wednesday, however, did not have to sweat in the final preliminary match after their opponents Zambia decided to withdraw from the tournament, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website www.bwfbadminton.org.

The national side led by reigning world junior champion Goh Jin Wei will square-off against Group E2 champion Czech Republic in the play-off match today to decide which team will advance to the quarterfinals.

After the team event ends on Sunday, the annual tournament will proceed with the individual events.

For the record, Malaysia won the team event of the tournament in 2011 when it was held in Taiwan besides claiming the title in all individual events except the women's doubles since the tournament was introduced in 1992. — Bernama
