LOS ANGELES, March 14 — The actress will join Garrett Hedlund and Hugh Jackman in the cast of “Pan,” a feature on the early years of the character created by JM Barrie in 1911.
Rooney Mara has landed the role of Tiger Lily, the princess in a native tribe in Neverland, Variety reports.
Producers chose the 28-year-old actress, who got her big break in “The Social Network,” over contenders Adèle Exarchopoulos (“Blue Is the Warmest Color”) and Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”).
The actress will share the screen with a pre-adolescent Peter Pan in the Warner Bros feature, which will be directed by Joe Wright (“Anna Karenina”).
Producers previously announced that Garrett Hedlund will portray a younger version of the character who will later become Captain Hook, and that Hugh Jackman will play the antagonist, the pirate Blackbeard.
“Pan” will narrate how the young orphaned Peter takes control of Neverland. The film is slated for US release on July 17, 2015.
