MENLO PARK, California, Aug 14 — Facebook has teamed up with online reservation site OpenTable to develop a new service that will allow mobile users to book a table directly from Facebook Pages without having to open a new app or web page.
The feature, announced this week, will be available on Facebook mobile Pages for more than 20,000 restaurants listed with OpenTable across North America.
It’s one of two new features being rolled out across the US this week. For iOS users, Facebook mobile will also display TV listing information on US primetime TV and movie Pages.
Programmes will be displayed based on the user’s time zone and include the channel name, air time and a description.
The latest announcement out of Facebook follows on the heels of Google and Zagat, which launched a major overhaul of the Zagat website and free mobile restaurant apps for Android and iPhone a few weeks ago.
If the Facebook collaboration sounds familiar, that may be because users of the new Zagat app can also book reservations through the restaurant booking service OpenTable. — AFP/Relaxnews
