KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 — “Right now, you are witnessing the birth of a global TV network,” Netflix Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings said yesterday in a keynote speech at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
And he couldn’t be more on the money.
Malaysians woke up this morning to the news that the video-streaming service is now available in the country. Cue imagery of a certain satellite pay TV service provider quaking in its hitherto dominant boots.
Netflix’s arrival in Malaysia is part of a huge global push that saw the service going “live” in more than 130 countries yesterday, covering almost the entire globe except China.
With the service whose popular shows include House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Narcos available to Malaysians now, we’re expecting to see a sharp decline in productivity around the country today.
To start watching, all you need to do is log onto Netflix’s official page and follow a few simple instructions to register.
The Netflix monthly plan for Malaysia together with features that come with each tier are as follows: RM33 for Basic, RM42 for Standard and RM51 for Premium.
Once you’ve selected your plan, you can view Netflix through various means including web browser, smart TV and game consoles, as well as dedicated apps for Android, iOS and Windows.
And if you’re not sure if you want to subscribe to Netflix right away, you can opt for a one-month free trial — but you’ll still need to enter your credit card details during registration.
Don’t forget to cancel your subscription before the one-month period is up.
Are you ready for some serious binge-watching? We know we certainly are.
