PALO ALTO, Nov 5 — Launched yesterday, Prime Photos, as the name may suggest is a new service open to the online retailer’s Amazon Prime members.
It allows them to upload photos in any resolution and in any number to Amazon’s cloud for free. And there are no device restrictions.
The service is iPhone and Android compatible — as well as working with Amazon’s own smartphones and tablets, of course — and the storage is secure.
“This time of year in particular, families are capturing thousands of photos of holiday parties, family gatherings and opening presents,” said Greg Greeley, Vice President Amazon Prime.
“With free unlimited photo storage, we’re providing one more reason for members to use Prime every day. Prime has always allowed members to conveniently save time and save money, and now with Prime Photos they can save memories too.”
As well as being able to upload pictures from pretty much any device, being able to access the photos again is equally simple and images can be viewed via games console and even selected LG and Samsung Smart TVs as well as PCs, Macs and smartphones.
Amazon is by no means the only company that offers unlimited photo storage but what makes the online retailer’s offering stand out is that it is yet another feature of its already attractive Amazon Prime service which offers discounts on purchases, express delivery, video on demand, digital book borrowing and music streaming, all for a yearly subscription of US$99 (RM329). — AFP/Relaxnews
