LOS ANGELES, Oct 17 — As announced, the recording artist and tech innovator presented his new smartwatch at the Dreamforce conference in San Francisco. The Puls is a stand-alone device with its own SIM card slot, meaning that it doesn't have to be connected to a smartphone to allow users to make calls, send texts or browse social networks.
The team at I.am+ spent over two years developing the Puls, a smartwatch with a surprising design, from its curved touch screen to its rigid strap. Equipped with 3G connectivity, will.i.am's device packs a Qualcomm Snapdragron processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
The Puls comes with its own voice-controlled smart personal assistant, Aneeda (for “I need a”), along with pre-installed apps for accessing Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other services. The operating system is a proprietary version of Android.
When it goes on sale, the Puls will be available in four colours: White, black, pink and blue. A gold version with diamonds was also presented.
Initially, the innovative smartwatch will launch in the US and the UK via AT&T and O2, respectively. Neither pricing details nor the launch dates were announced.
Will.i.am first demonstrated the watch last spring on the British TV show “Chatty Man” and has been building buzz around the concept ever since.
No stranger to the tech world, the Black Eyed Peas frontman founded i.am+, his brand aimed at bringing fashion and technology together, in 2012. Before that, in 2011, he was named “Director of Creative Innovation” at Intel.
