SHANGHAI, Sept 24 — With a rotating 13-megapixel camera and a 5.9-inch full HD display, this is a handset built for users that care as much about capturing the perfect self-portrait as they do about productivity or Angry Birds.

Launched yesterday by Oppo Chinese smartphone maker at a special event in Beijing, the device also features a rear-mounted touch panel for taking photos and for scrolling, making single-handed use easier a necessary addition considering the size of the display.

But it is the rotating camera that is bound to be the talking point. Oppo claims that the rotation element has been stress tested and should work at least 100,000 times with no problems.

The lens array can be twisted through 206° and a fast rotation of 120° will automatically launch the camera, ready to snap what will more than likely be a self-portrait.

Helping to boost the quality of the 13-megapixel images sensor is a dual LED flash and a beautification algorithm that automatically enhances both still and moving images.

The handset runs Android 4.2, has 2GM of RAM at its disposal and can be specified with 16 or 32GB of storage on board. And although it doesn’t offer expansion via SD card, the already pretty meaty battery can be removed and replaced.

The N1 is expected to cost 3,498 yuan (RM1,835) when it goes on sale in China in October. — AFP-Relaxnews
