KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Actor and producer Datuk Rosyam Nor is hoping his appearance in Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s biopic will attract the attention of the ethnic Chinese audience to watch local films.
He will play the role of former national shuttler Datuk Misbun Sidek who coached Chong Wei for the most part of his career, and said he is anticipating a similar impact just like his role in Kabali where he starred alongside Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth.
“Let’s hope the movie lures the Chinese fans just like my role in Kabali.
“I’d like them to come and watch my other movies too,” he told Malay daily Harian Metro.
Rosyam, whose acting career spans over 32 years, said his latest role would leave a noteworthy mark in his career as the film will be placed in the National Archives.
He added the only disappointment during the shooting was not being able to meet Misbun himself.
“The original plan was to meet him in person and to understand his character as a whole. Unfortunately due to his commitment we could not meet.
“I hope he has a positive reaction towards my role,” said the 50-year-old.
As a result, he watched videos of Misbun on the internet and met a few of his friends to get a closer glimpse of the shuttler’s personality.
“The videos helped me as it allowed me to research his style of speech and personality,” he reportedly said in Berita Harian.
The film titled Lee Chong Wei: Rise of the Legend, set to hit the cinemas on March 15, will focus on the former World No 1’s early years as an aspiring youngster from Penang to his rise to the top.
The entire production took three years to complete, and 50 days to film.
Joining Rosyam are Ashley Hua, Freddie Wong, Uriah See, Bernard Hiew and Datuk Norman Pang.
The world premiere is expected to draw a crowd of 20,000 and is set to enter the Malaysia Book of Records and Asia Book of Records as the largest movie screening.
