LOS ANGELES, Feb 7 — Lea DeLaria is headed to the altar.
The 56-year-old actress, best known to fans as Big Boo in Orange Is the New Black, took to Facebook to confirm her happy news.
And far from the typical gushing, picture-perfect wedding announcement, the star appeared to channel her character for the light-hearted declaration.
She even joked that her nuptials to fashion editor Chelsea Fairless could well turn into a “total sh*t show”.
“Yes b***hes I am engaged. Despite their concerns about the patriarchal confines of marriage, actor/singer Lea DeLaria & editrix Chelsea Fairless of Brooklyn, New York are pleased to announce their engagement,” she wrote, adding, “No date has been set for the impending nuptials but it’s safe to say that it will be the event of the season, or a total sh*t show.”
If that wasn’t clear enough, she illustrated her meaning with the accompanying image of hers and Chelsea’s heads superimposed on Liza Minnelli and David Gest’s heads from their ill-fated 2002 nuptials.
Standing alongside them is, of course, best man Michael Jackson and maid of honour Dame Elizabeth Taylor.
Speaking to E! News about their engagement, Lea confirmed that she was the one who popped the question to her partner of two-and-a-half-years.
The couple met on the set of OITNB through co-star Emma Miles, who plays Leanne.
“Everyone saw how emotional I was at the SAG Awards. I was so filled with love,” she said of how the proposal went down.
“I turned to her at the Netflix party that night and asked her to marry me. We announced it to all of our friends there.”
While the couple chose to keep their engagement out of the spotlight for a short time before making the official announcement, their wedding will be anything but low-key judging by the famous guests in attendance.
Comedienne and close friend Sandra Bernhard will officiate, while long-time pal Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family will be Lea’s best man.
“We want to do it in the summer so my entire cast can be there. But there’s not enough time to get everything together for this summer,” she told E! of their plans.
“We’re thinking July 2016. We want a nice long, romantic engagement.” — Cover Media
