KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-afternoon today on increased demand for the local stocks, a dealer said.

At 3pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) added 0.95 of-a-point to 1,722.87. 

The index opened 0.53 of-a-point better at 1,722.45 from Monday’s close of 1,721.92.

On the broader market, decliners outpaced gainers by 473 to 380 with 359 counters unchanged, 508 untraded and 23 others suspended. 

Turnover stood at 2.67 billion shares worth RM1.89 billion. 

Among heavyweights, Maybank rose four sen to RM8.84, Petronas Chemicals added sen to RM7.32, Tenaga fell two sen to RM13.76 and Sime Darby was one sen lower at RM9.12.

Of the actives, Borneo Oil gained one sen to 18 sen, Iskandar Waterfront rose 22 sen to RM2.81, Luster inched up 1.5 sen to 11 sen, while Priceworth was one sen lower at 19 sen.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index increased 6.32 points to 12,176.57, the FBMT 100 Index added 5.31 points to 11,837.62 and the FBM 70 Index was 1.71 points better at 14,156.09. 

The FBM Emas Syariah Index declined 6.00 points to 12,581.20, while the FBM Ace improved 46.14 points to 5,366.29. 

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index gained 31.00 points to 15,480.93, while the Plantation Index eased 0.31 of-a-point to 8,115.67 and the Industrial Index was 0.61 of-a-point weaker at 3,246.21. — Bernama
