KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-morning today on continued profit taking in most heavyweight counters, dealers said.
At 11.01am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,665.80, down 8.96 points from yesterday’s close of 1,674.76, after opening 3.24 points weaker at 1,671.52.
Market breadth was negative as losers led gainers 394 to 177, with 313 counters unchanged, 840 untraded and 36 others suspended.
Turnover amounted to 507.77 million shares worth RM453.89 million.
Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) said given the long weekend Labour Day holidays, bearish overnight Dow close and weakening KLCI technical stance, the market is expected to continue to trend lower today.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank added one sen to RM8.91, TNB fell 24 sen to RM13.96, Public Bank and Petronas Chemicals shed two sen each to RM18.68 and RM6.68 respectively, while IHH eased five sen at RM6.52.
Among actives, SapuraKencana added four sen to RM1.68, JAG Bhd gained half-a-sen to to 10 sen and YKGI warrant improved 2.5 sen to seven sen.
The FBM Emas Index declined 58.63 points to 11,601.32, the FBMT100 Index lost 58.96 points to 11,298.14, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index shed 63.08 points to 12,154.45.
The FBM70 slid 61.40 points to 12,968.11, while the FBM Ace rose 6.80 points to 5,613.96.
On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index slipped 37.55 points to 14,598.73, the Industrial Index fell 31.61 points to 3,175.60 but the Plantation Index gained 5.12 points to 7,718.02. — Bernama
