JOHOR BARU, Jan 26 — A 26-year-old man landed himself in trouble with the law for cursing a senior policeman at a roadblock after being caught for two traffic offences.

The incident happened along Jalan Pasir Pelangi at 12.45am today when the suspect in a Proton Saga was stopped by several policemen for using a fancy registration number plate and loud exhaust pipe.

A police source told Malay Mail that the suspect started to kick up a fuss when he was told to hand over his identity card and driving license for the policemen to issue a summon.

“A traffic police sergeant-major, who was in full uniform, then approached the suspect who was in his car to calm him down.

“Despite his efforts, the suspect cursed “Sial Bangkai Polis” (damn rotting corpse police) out loud,” the police source said.

The suspect was then immediately arrested and brought to the Johor Baru South district police headquarters where a report was lodged against him.

Police have initiated investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties

In an unrelated case, police arrested a 25-year-old man, believed to have been drunk, for refusing to pay tax on four cans of beer and threatening a Customs Department officer from discharging his duties at the Customs Complex at the Zone Duty Free Zone in Stulang Laut yesterday.

In the 3pm incident the suspect was with another friend on separate motorcycles when they were stopped at the tax and duties gantry area.

A source said the on-duty customs officer found the cans of beer and requested that the suspect pay the required duties on the alcoholic beverages.

“The suspect however refused and questioned why he should pay duties on the beer. He became difficult and also shouted obscenities towards the customs officer.

“The suspect, who is believed to be working in Singapore and hails from Ayer Tawar in Perak, even threatened to kill the customs officer,” said the source.

Later, the area’s auxiliary police were called in and the suspect was arrested and taken to the Taman Pelangi police station.

Investigations are underway under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from discharging his public functions and Section 506 of the same code for criminal intimidation.
