BESUT, March 8 ― Public universities in the country are encouraged to expand collaboration with various agencies and industry players to ensure the continuity of expertise.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said among the best efforts was collaboration among the universities via translational research, which would benefit the society and country.
For instance, he said, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UnisZA) had successfully set up its Digital Hub via collaborations with the Multimedia University (MMU) and several companies.
“The collaborations with industry players and government agencies will be able to produce global players that meet the current demand,” he told reporters after launching the UnisZA Digital Hub, here, today.
Meanwhile, Idris brushed off the report by a local daily claiming that the services of 6,000 lecturers in the public universities were terminated since last year due to financial constraints.
“Most of them were laid off due to several factors such as attaining the age of 60, contracts not extended, no potential (for the job) and applying to work elsewhere,” he said, adding that not more than 2,000 lecturers were laid off over the last five years. ― Bernama
