PUTRAJAYA, April 19 — A restaurant in Kuala Lumpur which allegedly imposed RM10 as air conditioning charges would be investigated by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK), after a customer uploaded an image of a receipt which went viral on social media. 

Its minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the restaurant admitted there might have been a mistake by one of its employee when preparing the bill. 

He said the restaurant did indeed have an air conditioning charge for customers who booked a room for a specific event, or those who wanted more privacy, and that it would be notified to the customer in advance.

“Some restaurants have charges like that for customers who book a room for a specific event, and it is not against the law if it is communicated to customers.

“Only in this case, we cannot be sure whether the customer had dined in the room or outside, as we have not met the person,” he told reporters after officiating KPDNKK’s 44th Enforcement Day Celebration here, today.
