KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The learning of Bahasa Melayu and English among students of National-Type Chinese Schools (SJKC) has become more interactive through the use of information and communication technology (ICT) under the ‘Chinese Primary Smart School Programme 2.0’.
Deputy Education Minister II Senator Chong Sin Woon said RM1.8 million had been allocated by MCA to begin this pilot project, which would involve about 10,000 SJKC students nationwide.
“Under this project, students can learn the languages in an enjoyable and interactive environment as it involves the use of advanced technology in the classroom, with the aid of school teachers,” he said when launching the project at SJKC Wangsa Maju here, today.
Chong, who is also MCA Youth chief, said the party had allocated RM60,000 to the school to develop the use of ICT for students from Standard One to Three, under the project.
Nine other schools across the country are involved in the pilot project, namely SJKC Yong Peng 2; SJKC Choong Hua 2, Bidor; SJKC Khaik Yew, Tebong, Melaka; SJKC Foon Yew 5, Johor Bahru; SJKC Chong Cheng, Kulim; SJKC Chung Ching, Raub; SJKC Chung Hwa Wei Sin, Kuala Terengganu; and SJKC San Yuk, Rawang.
The ‘Smart Chinese Primary School Programme 2.0’ project was jointly undertaken by Edutech Group and Weidu Corporation, who were responsible for developing the software and training modules for teachers and students.
According SJKC Wangsa Maju’s board of directors chairman Datuk Yew Teong Look, about 160 school children would learn both the languages in an interactive manner with the help of tablets, projectors and other ICT facilities in the school’s labs. — Bernama
