BUKIT JALIL, May 11 — Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Zabidi is more than happy to run for presidency of the FA of Malaysia as he feels it’s time they had a shake up in the much maligned association.
Nominated by Pahang FA to run against former FAM secretary general Datuk Hamidin Ali, Azim who is currently the chairman of the National Sports Institute (NSI) and recently won the deputy president’s seat for the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), said he will not turn down the nomination but will talk to member associations to see how much support he can garner.
“I’m grateful for the support the Pahang FA has put in me but this discussion of me having a run at the presidency is not a new one,” said Azim.
“I’m not here to wrest the post from anyone but rather want to fill in a vacancy. I feel it’s time there’s a change in FAM and someone from the outside like me could do a lot of good.
“Like any company, if things aren’t going well, everyone is responsible and if the problem persists then it’s only right to step down. I am driven to turn things around for the betterment of football and if I decide to run I’ll look at restructuring the administrative side of FAM.”
