GOLD COAST, April 14 — National mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying clinched the bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying edged Indian pair Satwik Rankireddy-Ashwini Ponnappa with a 21-19, 21-19.

Earlier, the Rio Olympic silver medallists had lost in their attempt to bag the gold medal after being defeated by Gabrielle Adcock-Chris Adcock of England in the semifinals, losing  21-19, 21-17.

Peng Soon said the medal won today helped them to redeem their pride after losing their spot in the final.

 “This medal is very important for the Malaysian team. We knew before we came here that there was a lot of expectations on us,”  he said.

Badminton has contributed one silver and two bronze so far. The badminton competition ends tomorrow. — Bernama
