BRISBANE, April 10 — National shooter Alia Sazana Azahari kept her nervousness under control to bag a bronze medal in the women’s 25m pistol at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games today.

Despite appearing nervous in the final at Belmont Shooting Centre, the 26-year-old athlete calmed herself to collect 26 points in the finals.

“I was shaking and really nervous and scared the whole time. I was so nervous but I paid attention and stayed focused in my aim.

“This is my first Commonwealth medal. I am very happy to contribute something for the country and my teammates. It is a dream comes true. I dedicate this medal to my mum whose birthday was two days ago and it’s an early birthday present for my dad as well,” she said.

Alia Sazana also thankful to senior shooter, Bibiana Ng for guiding her in the event.

“For sure, I can’t do that without Bibiana. She has been helping me a lot and pushing me hard in the training,” she said.

Bibiana who was also in the final was placed seventh after collecting 12 points.

The gold went to India’s, Heena Sidhu with 38 points while Elena Galiabovitch of Australia won the silver with 35 points. — Bernama
