GOLD COAST, April 7 — The national badminton squad are on course in the 2018 Commonwealth Games badminton mixed team competition when they are down to meet England in the semi-finals, here.

As expected, the team headed by world badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei chalked up a 3-0 win over Scotland in the quarter-finals at Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre today.

Malaysia’s first point was contributed by mixed doubles, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying who were stretched to the rubber set by Adam Hall-Julie Macpherson before prevailing 14-21, 21-18 and 21-15.

Next Chong Wei easily disposed of Kieran Merrilees in straight sets 21-14, 21-17 for the second point.

Men’s doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong showed Alexander Dunn-Adam Hall the exit with a 21-10, 21-15 win to put Malaysia through to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, on his meeting with England’s Rajiv Ouseph tomorrow, Chong Wei said he would concentrate the technique of his opponent and expected a tough fight from English player.

“I’ve played him so many times. I think I never lose and I hope I can win again because this is not individual event, this is a team event. Nevertheless I need to focus more on myself for my performance tomorrow,” he said. — Bernama
