KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — A relaxed Julian Yee vowed to give his all ahead of his historic Winter Olympics debut today.
Julian will begin his journey in the preliminary rounds (9am) of the figure skating event.
When he steps out at the Gangneung Ice Arena, Julian will become the first ever Malaysian to compete in the Winter Games.
Besides Julian, the other Malaysian athlete is alpine skier Jeffrey Webb.
Julian’s mother Irene Cheow, also the team manager, said training sessions went well and expects Julian to have a smooth groundbreaking experience.
“Julian is calm and adapting to the rink,” said Irene.
“He has also adjusted to the time zone and climate.
“He’ll try his best and regardless of the the results, we’re proud he’s come this far.”
Asked if the 21-year-old had set any personal targets, Irene said: “He has done all the necessary preparations and will give this his all.”
Julian, who has picked To Build A Home as his theme, needs to finish among the top 24 of 30 competitors.
If Julian achieves the target, he will get to compete in the freeskating event tomorrow.
