KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 — Malaysia’s Agilan “Alligator” Thani is eager to record a second successive win to earn another shot at the welterweight title when he makes his return at ONE Championship: Visions of Victory on March 9.
The Sentul-born fighter, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Egypt’s Sherif Mohamed last August, is training harder than ever to show he deserves another chance at the belt.
“All I want is a win, which will allow me to be one step closer at the belt. I’m training all aspects of my game to ensure there is no flaw in my fight.
“I was sad that I didn’t bring home the belt last year and hence, I’m not treating this match lightly,” said the 22-year-old.
His will face former Super Fight League (SFL) welterweight champion, India’s Amitesh Chaubey, at the Axiata Arena.
Agilan (8-1) said he is ready for anything Amitesh throws at him.
“My strategy is always the same, I’m going to take him down, submit him, or a good ground and pound.
“I predict a quick finish,” he said.
Amitesh ,whose record stands at five wins and four losses, should be wary of Agilan’s ground game as the Malaysian fighter has recorded four submission victories in the past three years.
Agilan’s only career defeat came against Ben Askren in Singapore last year.
The March event will also see the debut of 20-year-old Hayatun Najihin Radzuan who will face off against India’s Puja Tomar in the atomweight division.
Joining them in team Malaysia is Bali MMA’s Gianni Subba (9-2), “Jungle Cat” Muhammad Aiman and Sabah’s Hisyam “Zephyrus” Samsudin.
“It feels great to be competing in front of my countrymen. They give me good energy and it brings out the best in me,” Agilan said.
