DHAKA, Oct 15 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes the Malaysian hockey team currently playing in the Asia Cup Hockey tournament here, can win the title to establish Malaysia as a leading hockey playing nation.
Ahmad Zahid who met the players at a hotel here today said winning the title would revive past glory in the field of hockey.
The Deputy Prime Minister also pledged US$10,000 (RM42,000) to the National hockey squad.
The Asia Cup Hockey tournament is scheduled from Oct 11 to 22.
Malaysia who have been drawn in Group B, have scored two consecutive victories in as many matches, whipping China 7-1 and beating defending champion South Korea 2-1.
