KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 — Datuk Subahan Kamal says he would make a good FA of Selangor (FAS) president as he has been one of the more active members.

Subahan is no stranger to the local football scene. He was Under-21 team manager and national team manager besides being an FA of Malaysia (FAM) vice-president (2010 to 13). He is also president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).

The vacancy for the FAS presidency arose after Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Azmin Ali — who held the hot seat since December 2014 — quit two months ago following what he claimed as conflicts of interest.

No one stepped up to declare their interest in the presidency except for Red Shirts leader Datuk Jamal Yunos. FAS’ emergency general meeting is on Thursday.

“Whoever wins the post should be able to raise funds, be responsible for the players and staff and have a strong passion for the sport,” said Subahan.

“I’m in tune with the pulse of Selangor football since 2003, and if elected it will be business as usual for me,” said the 51-year-old.

Subahan does not know who nominated him. However he admitted others would feel daunted by the task of bringing FAS back from disrepute.

Funding is the main issue that need to be addressed and Subahan is aware deep pockets are required to be a successful president.

“Many are interested but they’re scared of the financial burden,” explained Subahan.

“I can’t say for sure I will win as it’s up to the clubs to decide. Let’s wait and see on Thursday who else is nominated.

“I can do for Selangor what I have done for MHC.”

Subahan will also run for re-election as one of FAM’s vice-presidents.

The nominations closed Feb 13 and tomorrow there will be an executive meeting to finalise candidates for all positions including the hot seat that will be contested by former Kelantan FA president Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Johor Crown Prince, Tunku Ismail Ibrahim.
