KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 — Malaysian celebrities made up half of the most read stories for the Showbiz section of Malay Mail for the year, with five stories featuring them sitting in the top 10 list.
Anita Sarawak is not missing
After going off the radar since 2011, iconic singer and actress Anita Sarawak reemerged to put to rest rumours and speculations over her ‘disappearance’.
Speaking through lyricist and former entertainment journalist Roslen Fadzil, Anita denied rumours of her being sick and insisted she is not divorced from her husband, Mahathir Abdullah.
Anita and her husband travelled to the United States back in 2011 and it is said they have migrated.
They have been living in Las Vegas since then and remain undetected by the media since.
The Asmara singer is much loved by Malaysians as news about her made it to number two of the most viewed list for the year.
Stay where you are
Actress Sharifah Sakinah has been asked by social media users to remain in Sweden after she complained of being tired from commuting between the European country and Malaysia following her marriage to a Swedish national.
Sharifah, who had since separated from her husband, had also been encouraged to stay there for good since she had taken up the way of life there.
Initially, Sharifah only travels once every four months before shortening it to every two weeks as her daughter that she shared with her ex-husband would ask when she is coming back.
The story about the Rise: Ini Kalilah actress, whose real name is Sharifah Nurul Sakinah Syed Abu Bakar Al-Khairedi, came in third in the list of most viewed.
Selangor's zakat top contributor
Entrepreneur Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri is known to create controversies such as sharing explicit wedding night tips and dancing with a mop in music videos.
But there is an aspect of him that endeared readers to the 35-year-old — emerging as the top contributor for Selangar Zakat Board (LZS).
Aliff started paying zakat when he was 19-year-old where he could only afford to pay RM7.
He attributed his success today to prayers from his mother and wife.
The story of Aliff, awarded by LZS as the top contributor for his RM1 million in zakat funds, came in fifth in the list of top 10 stories.
All in for modest look
The story of television personality and social media influencer Daphne Iking saying she feels awkward without a headscarf came in seventh on the list.
The 43-year-old reportedly said she also plans to dispose of all her revealing outfits that no longer fit in with her modest look which she began sporting last October.
Iking revealed she initially started wearing the tudung to cover her grey hair before deciding to wear it permanently.
She converted to Islam in 2010, before marrying businessman Azmi Abdul Rahman the following year.
He wants to replace Bieber
Cosmetics mogul Datuk Seri Vida’s ex-fiancee Ahmad Iqbal Zulkefli has been slammed by online users for 'wanting to replace Justin Bieber' at his concert.
Bieber was forced to cancel tour dates including in Malaysia due to his sudden contraction of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome which left him with partial facial paralysis.
However, Iqbal offered to replace the Canadian singer, much to the chagrin of his fans.
Iqbal also said he would only come if he was paid a little higher as he needed to buy a pen to sign his fans’ autographs.
The story came in last in the list of top 10 stories for the year.
