They are the first K-pop group to be invited to the event, and it also marked the group's first US TV performance.
After they made their debut, presenter Jared Leto said, “I need a moment to recover from that performance. That was incredible.”
The boys walked the red carpet dressed in full Saint Laurent and were greeted by screaming fans, known collectively as ARMY, who gathered hours ahead of time to see their favourite stars.
BTS also made K-pop history in May when they beat out superstars like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez to clinch the Top Social Artist award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.
