LOS ANGELES, Nov 28 ― The author will write the screenplay for a miniseries based on his novel “Song Yet Sung” for the American cable channel, Deadline.com announces.
Following the success of “12 Years a Slave,” FX is the latest TV network seeking to explore the dark history of slavery in the US. After eyeing a “Roots” reboot that was ultimately purchased by History, FX has instead turned to an acclaimed novel to adapt into a miniseries on the subject.
Loosely based on the story of Harriet Tubman, McBride’s “Song Yet Sung” focuses on Liz Spocott, an escaped slave making her way along the Underground Railroad. She is pursued along the way by Denwood Long, a slave catcher hired to track her down.
The screenplay for the adaptation will be penned by James McBride himself, who will also produce the project alongside Kelsey Grammer. ― AFP-Relaxnews
