CYBERJAYA, Oct 31 — Maxis Communications was named “Best Cellular Service Provider for 2016” at the Public Cellular Service Providers (PCS) Star Rating Award organised by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today.

The firm also won in the “Best Network Investment” category and was joint winner with U Mobile in “Best in Compliance to Communications and Multimedia Act 1998”.

Celcom took home the “Best Consumer Satisfaction” award while Digi was first in the “Best Quality of Service” category for their customer service quality.

At the awards, MCMC chief operating officer Mazlan Ismail explained that consumer portion of the scoring was given the most weightage to ensure that the awards would be an compelling form of consumer empowerment.

“By giving a louder and stronger voice to consumers under the award, this can become an effective tool to ensure that the telcos are responsible for managing consumer expectation,” he said.

According to MCMC’s data, there were 42.8 million mobile cellular subscriptions at of the first quarter or 133 per cent of the current local population.

Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Jailani Johari said this was a demonstration of the public’s appetite for new technology.

The Star Rating Award is part of the 14 key action items under the MCMC’s Strategic Consumer Empowerment Plan 2014-2016 to create greater awareness of consumer rights and avenues for addressing their concerns.
