KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) pre-tax profit for financial year ended Dec 31, 2016 rose to RM183.33 million from RM45.94 million in the same period of 2015.
Revenue grew to RM4.17 billion from RM3.87 billion previously, it said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.
MAHB said revenue from airport operations were 9.3 per cent higher at RM2.94 billion from RM2.71 billion in 2015 due to an increase in aeronautical revenue.
The airports operator said the main contributing factors to the increase were higher passenger growth, more point-to-point passenger traffic, consolidation of operations at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, as well as,
the relocation of Malindo Air to KLIA-Main Terminal.
Meanwhile, non-airport segment registered a nine per cent increase in revenue to RM135.3 million from RM124.2 million in 2015, largely contributed by revenue from the hotel and agriculture segments.
On overseas airport operations, the segment’s revenue rose 4.6 per cent to RM948.9 million.
Airports in Malaysia registered 89 million passenger traffic in 2016, a growth of 6.1 per cent over 2015 despite the challenging environment.
MAHB said this year’s passenger traffic in Malaysia was expected to grow by 6.5 per cent.
“The International Air Transport Association predicted global scheduled passenger traffic growth for 2017 will be in the range of 5.1 per cent and for Asia-Pacific it is expected to be 7 per cent.
“Malaysia’s carriers seat capacity for the immediate future provides a positive outlook for 2017,” it said. — Bernama
