KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 — Pos Malaysia Bhd’s pre-tax profit for the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2016 almost doubled to RM52.74 million from RM29.6 million in the same quarter of 2015.
Revenue grew to RM635.72 million for the quarter under review from RM494.63 million previously.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, Pos Malaysia attributed the better performance to higher contribution from its courier business, which was driven by an increase in demand from e-commerce.
“The segment registered revenue of RM188.5 million from RM143.3 million in the third quarter of 2015,” it said.
Furthermore, the company’s results were also bolstered by its logistics segment, which contributed RM169.3 million, following the acquisition of Pos Aviation Sdn Bhd, it said.
Moving forward, Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, said the company would be fully e-commerce-ready by mid-2017, in which it would be able to offer cash-on-delivery and credit-card-on-delivery payment options, warehousing and pick and pack services.
“We will continue to drive innovation in the e-commerce industry by providing market-oriented solutions for the benefit of both merchants and consumers,” he said. — Bernama
