KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 ― Bursa Malaysia was in the positive territory at mid-afternoon today with trading confined in tight range.
At 3pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,724.52, up 0.74 of-a-point, from yesterday's close of 1,723.78.
The key index, which opened 1.32 points lower at 1,722.46, had only moved in the 6.02-point range of between 1,727.12 and 1,721.10.
A dealer said buying was interspersed with mild profit-taking.
“Sentiment turned cautious over a weekend meeting of the oil producers,” he said.
On regional markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 dipped 0.37 per cent to 16,848.03 as investors took profits after a three-day rally, while Singapore's Straits Times gained 0.24 per cent to 2,920.97 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.09 per cent to 21,318.51.
On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 409 to 251 with 362 counters unchanged, 708 counters untraded and 18 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 960.07 million shares worth RM808.36 million.
Of heavyweight, top weighted Maybank added two sen to RM9.17, Tenaga up eight sen to RM14.48, RHB Capital added 15 sen to RM6.25, while Genting declined 21 sen to RM9.09.
Meanwhile, the FBM Emas Index slid 2.02 points to 11,968.30, the FBMT100 Index up 0.33 of-a-point to 11,664.87 while the FBM Emas Syariah Index shed 6.65 points to 12,520.80.
The FBM70 shed 16.44 points to 13,276.39 while the FBM Ace slipped 28.53 points to 5,738.53.
On a sectorial basis, the Finance Index surged 42.43 points to 15,001.84, the Plantation Index climbed 26.10 points to 7,801.99, while the Industrial Index fell 9.37 points to 3,282.98.
Among actives, Eka Noodles was flat at 14.5 sen, AirAsia X gained 1.5 sen to 32.5 sen while its warrant (A) gained two sen to 17.5 sen, Vivocom eased one sen to 31.5 sen while Sumatec fell half-a-sen to 12.5 sen. ― Bernama
