KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — Police yesterday detained 467 people for violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedures, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

Ismail, who is also defence minister, said that most of those who were nabbed did not wear face masks, which has been made a mandatory rule in public spaces.

Of the number, 460 people were given compound notices, six were remanded and one was released on bail.

Ismail said that 182 people were still not wearing face masks even after more places nationwide have been put under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

“This is a basic SOP, that is to wear face masks when going out in public spaces. This is to protect yourselves ladies and gentlemen, but till today, we see many are not wearing face masks when in public spaces,” he said.

Ismail said that 110 others were penalised for failure to prepare equipment to record personal details at their workplaces, 106 for failing to observe physical distancing and 69 were held for others various Covid-19 regulatory violations.
