PETALING JAYA, Feb 8 — A jewellery store within the Giant Kota Damansara shopping complex was robbed for the second time in the span of four months this morning.
Three men wearing ski masks stormed the ground floor of Wah Chan outlet with one of them armed with a revolver at 11.50am and made off with RM720,000 worth of jewellery.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din confirmed the incident and said investigators are currently conducting forensic investigations at the outlet.
“The moment they stormed the store, one of the suspect pointed the revolver at the guard and took his shotgun,” he said.
Investigators at the shopping complex have since retrieved the shotgun from a parking bay less than 100m from the jewellery store.
The suspects made off with the eight trays of jewellery before fleeing in a white Perodua Myvi which was fitted with a fake vehicle registration number driven by a fourth accomplice.
On Nov 1 last year, two men armed with parang made off with RM1.1 million worth of gold and jewellery from the outlet, before fleeing in a Nissan Almera.
A J.Co doughnuts outlet manager Abdul Rahim Shafeae, 37, who witnessed the incident said he realised something was wrong when he saw a horde of people running away from the shop towards the exit.
“It was chaotic. The people were screaming and running everywhere,” he said.
Abdul Rahim said when he decided to take a closer look, he saw one of the suspects standing, one leg rooted on the security guard who was lying face down.
“He was holding the guard’s shotgun and what seemed like a pistol in the other hand while he kept a lookout.
“I then saw two other men in ski masks, very calmly ransacking and clearing the drawers of gold and jewellery,” he said.
Abdul Rahim said when the suspects took longer than two minutes, he decided to alert the police fearing his outlet would be targeted next.
“It really struck me how relaxed they seemed which made me call the police.
“I panicked with my hands shivering vigorously as I was speaking to the police,” he said.
Abdul Rahim, who has been working at the outlet for the last seven-years, was also around during the previous incident in Nov last year.
“The last time I did not manage to get a good look and only saw a skinny, fair-skinned person fleeing from the shop.
“There was also a similar person among today’s culprits, but I was not able to recognise their faces,” he said.
