SHAH ALAM, Jan 28 — The old video of a male activist from the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) alleging that the police was instructed by certain quarters to arrest him has resurfaced.

Selangor Police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the resurfaced video was purportedly to cause anger among the members of the public.

“Police actions are in accordance with the law and have nothing to do with any kind of pressure or direction from any party,” he said in a statement today.

Mazlan said the video had gone viral was associated with the action by activist, Yusof Azmi, and another PPIM activist, Ali Salimin, who were both alleged to have committed mischief and trespassing.

The duo were charged in the Kajang Magistrate’s Court on October 24 last year with committing the offences at a car leasing company’s premises in Sungai Sikamat, Jalan Cheras Batu 13 in Kajang on July 10.

The action by the activists followed complaints from car owners claiming that they were cheated in vehicle leasing process.

Mazlan reminded the public not to make any comments on cases that were still on trial.

“Besides creating subjudice, such statements can also disrupt public order,” he added. — Bernama
