KUALA KRAI, Nov 4 ― About 70 train passengers were stranded for at least two hours after a landslide washed away part of the track’s foundation and caused a standstill.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Eastern Territories manager Zaid Ibrahim said the incident took place at Kilometer 392.75 between Dabong and Bukit Abu around 6.30pm following heavy rain in the area yesterday.
“The Dabong bound train that departed from Kuala Lipis, Pahang around 6.05pm had to come to halt immediately after it was notified of the landslide,” he said.
Zaid said the train had to backtrack to Dabong because the tracks were obstructed and all the passengers were brought to the Kuala Krai train station using the shuttle service.
He said KTMB is currently consulting their engineering team and repair works will be conducted at the soonest.
In December 2016, a landslide occurred at the same location and derailed a train, however no casualties were reported.
