GEORGE TOWN, Oct 30 — Putrajaya promised a total 625,000 units under its 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) scheme since 2012 but only 1,332 have been finished, said state executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo.

The housing development committee chairman said Putrajaya has also only delivered 883 units, when citing a written parliamentary reply by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim to PKR MP Sim Tze Tzin.

“It is shocking that the federal government has now promised a total 625,000 units of PR1MA housing since 2013 and only 1,332 units were completed,” he said.

“At the very least, if using the norm of three years to complete building an apartment, there should have been at 80,000 units completed by now,” he said.

He noted that despite the low completion rate, the federal government continued to promise more PR1MA units in Budget 2015 (80,000 units), Budget 2016 (175,000 units), Budget 2017 (30,000 units) and Budget 2018 (210,000 units).

Jagdeep also pointed out that not a single PR1MA unit was built in Penang.

“There is no point in making announcements after announcements when we don’t see actual delivery of these units,” he said.

He then compared the Penang state government's delivery of the its planned housing projects against Putrajaya.

Penang completed 20,887 units of low-cost and low-medium cost housing with certificate of completion and compliance (CCC) obtained and keys handed over to purchasers,” he said.

“These are a combination of state and private projects and we have 17 more projects in the pipeline with five in various stages of completion.”

He said the five projects consist of a total 2,143 low medium costs units and 2,861 affordable housing units.
