KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — A van driver was sentenced to five days in jail and RM500 in fine or another one month by the Ampang Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to stealing RM145 from a massage chair at a laundromat.
J. Sarawanan, 29, told magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali that he needed the cash for his motor oil. He committed the offence at Bukit Indah, Ampang Jaya here, at 9.14pm on July 23.
According to the facts of the case, a friend of the laundromat owner who lived near the premises alerted the latter about a man who was acting suspiciously at the outlet, before catching the culprit with the help of members of the public.
Meanwhile, a father of nine was fined RM2,500 in default three months imprisonment for theft.
Night market trader Herman Syah, 47, changed his plea to guilty when the charge was read out to him again by the interpreter before magistrate Mohd Azali Ibrahim.
He admitted stealing an assortment of items including a mobile phone, handbag, and RM500 cash at the roadside at PJU 10/1, Damansara Damai near here, at 8.15 pm on February 3.
He was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum seven years imprisonment or a fine or both, on conviction. — Bernama
