KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Integrity is the element that turns pure knowledge into an enriching education, said Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

Speaking at the 57th convocation ceremony at Universiti Malaya today, the Sultan of Perak said this was because integrity was derived from an inner strength that also gave one the courage to take risks and make sacrifices.

“The university’s reputation will be elevated if it successfully educates, raises, guides, and produces graduates with integrity. Universiti Malaysia is obliged to be at the forefront of the integrity agenda.

“As a centre of learning and civilisation responsible for producing intelligence, Universiti Malaysia has a huge responsibility to inculcate the virtue of integrity in its efforts to produce the best graduates,” he said in his speech.

Sultan Nazrin earlier congratulated UM on its recent progress in global rankings, including rising to become the 24th best university in Asia as rated by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

UM was among five Malaysian universities that broke into QS World University Rankings’ Top 50 in Asia.
