GEORGE TOWN, Oct 12 — The authorities must ensure that any terrorist threats should not stop the royal visit by Britain’s Prince Charles to Malaysia next month, said DAP’s Lim Guan Eng today.

The DAP secretary-general said if any event is cancelled due to a terror threat, this meant victory for the terrorists.

“Similarly, if an official visit is cancelled because of a terror threat, this would be a humiliation for the authorities who are not seen as capable of maintaining public security, law and order,” he said in a statement issued today.

The Penang chief minister believed the police, when allowed to do its professional job, has the ability to contain and ensure that any terrorist group in Malaysia will not “threaten and hold Malaysians to ransom with impunity.”

“If we subject ourselves to such undisclosed terror threats and change our daily lifestyle, we will not only be surrendering our freedom but perhaps also our sovereignty as a nation,” he said.

Lim pointed that Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun have said that the police did not receive any terror threat to Prince Charles but security will be tight for the high-profile royal event.

He expressed his confidence in the professional capacity and capability of the Malaysian police to ensure that Prince Charles remains safe during his visit here.
