JOHOR BARU, Feb 26 — Five people, including a four-year-old boy  were injured when the ambulance vehicle they were traveling in, collided with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and turned-turtle at the Jalan Persiaran Seri Alam traffic lights here last night.

Seri Alam police chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Aziz said the accident occurred when the ambulance was on its way to the Sultan Ismail Hospital after picking up a patient at Tasek 64, Seri Alam.

In a statement here yesterday, he said as the ambulance reached the intersection, vehicles from all directions gave way but soon after it passed the traffic lights, an MPV rammed into it.

“The impact caused the ambulance to turn-turtle before it careened dangerously on the road,” he added.

Jokhiri said the ambulance driver, assistant medical officer and the patient’s mother escaped with minor injuries while the patient and a medical assistant sustained injuries on the hands and legs.

He said the 21-year-old man driving the MPV escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile in SIK, nine people were injured in an accident involving four vehicles at Jalan Jeneri, Kampung Desa Jaya near here yesterday.

In a statement, Kedah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, Nur Hafizah Nur Muhammad Lukman said the 5pm crash involved a Honda City, Mitsubishi Triton and two Proton Wira.

He said passers-by sent six of the victims to a hospital while the rest were given first-aid treatment before they were sent to the hospital for further treatment. — Bernama
