PUTRAJAYA, Feb 24 — Malaysia will no longer respond to allegations from Pyongyang’s envoy here, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.
North Korean ambassador to Malaysia Kang Chol has repeatedly accused Malaysia of conspiracy in the investigation into the death of Kim Jong-nam, claiming among others that his host country could not be “trusted”.
“At this juncture, we don’t see the need to dignify his statement and accusations against the government of Malaysia.
“The entire world knows the investigations has been objective and impartial and also transparent,” Anifah said during a press conference today.
Anifah today reminded North Korea that diplomacy was a reciprocative in nature, and told the country and its representatives to be respectful if they expect to be treated seriously.
He said that the accusations against Malaysia were not only hurtful the administration but also all Malaysians.
“The ambassador must realise that he must enjoy the confidence of the government of Malaysia. I hope you understand what I mean by confidence of the government,” Anifah stressed.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today ordered Anifah’s ministry to prepare a report on continued ties with North Korea for the Cabinet’s evaluation.
Malaysia is one of just a handful of countries that maintain cordial relations with the isolated country.
Jong-nam, the half-brother to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was attacked by two women at KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on February 13 while waiting for a flight to Macau. He died on the way to hospital.
Police today revealed that he was poisoned using the VX nerve agent, a potent chemical weapon of mass destruction.
