SERI ISKANDAR, Feb 22 — Four men armed with machetes yesterday robbed a man in Ipoh of RM180,000 he had just withdrawn from a bank, police said here today.
Perak CID chief Datuk Gan Tian Kee said the 30-year-old victim was uninjured in the incident which took place at 5.45pm.
The robbers used their car to obstruct the Perodua Myvi car of the victim, smashed the windscreen and released the air from the rear tyres as he was leaving after withdrawing the money from the bank, he said.
“The robbers snatched the bag containing the money that was on the front passenger seat,” he said to reporters after witnessing the handing over of duties of Perak Tengah District Police chief here.
Jerantut District Police deputy chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah took over as Perak Tengah District Police chief from Supt Aziz Hassan who went on mandatory retirement.
Gan said the robbery was the second in five months committed in a similar fashion.
The modus operandi was to observe potential victims in banks, tail them and rob them, he said. — Bernama
