JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 14 ― The High Court here today sentenced a couple to death by hanging for drug trafficking.

Justice Datuk Mohd Sofian Abd Razak imposed the punishment on P. Krishnan Murthy and S. Gayathri, both aged 31, after finding that the defence had failed to cast any reasonable doubt on the prosecution's case.

The judge said the defence failed to prove that the drugs belonged to an individual named Gunalan, purportedly a friend of Krishnan Murthy's brother, and failed to prove that Gunalan had access to their house.

The duo were found guilty of trafficking in a lethal combination of heroin and monoacethylmorphines weighing 272.14gm at 19-08, Blok C, Apartment Sri Impian, Larkin Perdana on May 25, 2014 around 9.15pm.
