LANGKAWI, Oct 30 — A 10-year-old boy was among nine Toyol Mamat Gang members apprehended on Friday for suspected house-breaking in Langkawi.
The resort island’s police chief, Supt Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said the first three of the suspected young thieves, aged 11 to 14, were caught following a tip-off and an operation was launched on the same day after they revealed more were involved in the crime.
“The ‘Op Pintu’ resulted in the arrest of six more accomplices aged 10 to 13. The initial investigation revealed that they had been involved in four house-breaking cases here this year,” he told reporters, today.
He said the gang was led by a 14-year-old and five of them were still students — three at secondary school and two at primary school levels.
“A chain saw, a watch, two power banks, an electronic cigarette, a pair of roller blades, two mobile phones, a laptop computer and ladies’ accessories worth about RM3,000, believed to be their stolen loot, were also recovered.
“A drug screening test was conducted on the suspects but came out negative.
They are still in custody though for further action,” he added. — Bernama
