KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Malaysia has detained 14 men suspected of links to Islamic State during the past three weeks, the police said today.
The suspects were among 16 men aged between 20 and 38 detained in Selangor, Sabah and other parts of the country between September 21 and October 6 for alleged ties to terrorism, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement.
All but one of the 16 arrested were Malaysian citizens, Khalid said.
Besides those suspected of links to Islamic State, one man — from a North African country — is believed to have ties with a syndicate that falsified travel documents for al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra in Syria, according to the police official’s statement.
Another was a student earlier arrested by the Turkish authorities for planning to enter Syria to participate in terrorist activities there, Khalid said. — Bloomberg
