KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — The bodies of two children, who were allegedly murdered and stuffed in separate plastic storage containers in their apartment in Kepong last Monday, will only be released for funeral arrangements once DNA tests have been concluded.

A police source told Malay Mail the tests were being carried out as a standard procedure in police investigations, and not due to doubts over the victim’s biological parents.

He said blood samples were taken from the children’s 35-year-old mother, who had her remand order extended to Wednesday following an application to a magistrate on Saturday.

“We just need to confirm their identities before releasing them to family members,” he said.

According to the source, the body of the father, who was also found dead in the apartment, has been cleared for family members to claim.

“The family wishes to claim all three bodies together, once the tests have been concluded,” he said.

Initial post-mortem results came back inconclusive, prompting police to request a toxicology report to be conducted on the remains of the father, Cheah Hing Soon, 34, and his three-year-old daughter, Kai Sze, to determine their cause of death.

“We have yet to establish if the father had died from substance overdose or was poisoned,” he said.

According to the post-mortem results, the other child, seven-month-old Kai Wen, had died from blunt force trauma to his head, as pathologists discovered a crack in his skull.

The children’s mother was seen escorted by police into the apartment on Friday wearing orange police lockup uniform.

She was seen pointing at several spots in the home before forensic investigators left the scene with several parcels of evidence, including a wooden stick.

Last Monday, the decomposing bodies of Cheah, Kai Sze and  Kai Wen were found in separate rooms of their apartment.

The remains of Kai Sze and Kai Wen were each found stuffed in plastic storage containers wrapped in a blue garbage bag in a room believed to have been off limits to family members.

It is believed that Kai Sze’s body had been rotting in the room for at least the last seven months, while Kai Wen is believed to have been dead for at least a month.

Cheah,  believed to have been dead for two days before police arrived, was found lying face up on a mattress in the master bedroom.

His wife was arrested after she allegedly gave conflicting information to police.

Her two elder sons, aged eight and six, were put under the custody of their paternal grandfather following the incident.
