KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 1 ― PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS), which is responsible for operating the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), had made various preparations to face the possibility of the floods during the monsoon season.
PLUS managing director Datuk Noorizah Abd Hamid said the company had made several preparations including identifying routes which were flood prone.
"As in the previous years, several areas on the highway were inundated and we are learning from this experience to ensure the problem does not recur.
"This is the first year we are managing the LPT2 and we will identify the problems and resolve them," she told reporters after closing the Gempak Mufors Motorcycle Safety Program, here today.
Also present were Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman and State CID chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah.
On another development, Noorizah said the licence for a petrol station on the LPT 2 had also been issued by the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the Works Ministry.
She said PLUS was confident that the petrol station be set up soon depending on the company operating the station itself.
Meanwhile, the Gempak Mufors Motorcycle Safety Program launched today was an initiative aimed to educate and churn out more courteous riders particularly among the youths.
Rosli said the program was a collaboration between PLUS and the Royal Malaysia Police as well as several other parties to reduce the fatality rate involving motorcyclists and pillion riders. ― Bernama
