ALOR SETAR, May 3 — Water level at six dams in Kedah have dipped due to heat wave caused by the El Nino weather phenomenon.
However, the water level at three of the dams, supervised by the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) is still sufficient and at safe level.
MADA Deputy General Manager (Technical), Datuk Hor Tek Lip said the water level at the Pedu Dam recorded a reading of 55.47 per cent, Ahning Dam (71.69 per cent) and the Muda Dam (30.40 per cent).
“Granted, the water level has dropped but it is still adequate to accommodate the irrigation system for the first 2016 paddy cultivation season in spite of the El Niño phenomenon,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Meanwhile, the water level at the Beris Dam is at critical level, recording a reading of 26.43 per cent as compared to 38.99 per cent on April 17.
Furthermore, the water levels of two dams in Langkawi, namely the Padang Saga Dam and Malut Dam recorded a reading of 39.41 per cent and 50.58 per cent, respectively. — Bernama
